TCA9509: EVM for the TCA9509

Part Number: TCA9509
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9802EVM, TCA9517, TCA9802, TCA9800

Is there an EVM for the TCA9509 that is available for customers?

  • Hi Dan,

There is not a specific TCA9509 EVM, however, you can use the TCA9802EVM to evaluate the TCA9509. The TCA9802EVM has two sockets, one for the TCA9802 (newly released I2C buffer) and one for a traditional I2C buffer, such as the TCA9509 of TCA9517. This allows for evaluation and comparison between the two devices.

I’d also recommend the TCA9802 (or one of the variants with different current drive strengths: TCA9800/01/03) over the TCA9509, as this new device uses a new architecture with integrated current source, which allows for:

    • Better signal integrity

    • Lower voltage support for I2C slaves

    • Exponentially lower power consumption (<50uA vs. standard I2C buffers ~1mA)

    • Eliminated static voltage offset to help reduce the risk for communication issues

We’ve posted an app note and a blog to provide additional details on the new family. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Regards,

    Kaitlyn
