Help with RS232 communication

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRS3122E, ISOW7842, TRS202E

Hi everyone,

I have an application that need to design an isolated board to transfer RS232 signal 12V to TTL 12V with the rate 115k. I thought the TIDA-0123 (www.ti.com/.../TIDA-01230)  could be the my solution however it only can deal with a half of the problem.

Specifically, RS232 12V --> TRS3122E --> ISOW7842 --> TTL 5V.

May I have any recommendation of how can I boost TTL 5V to 12V ?

Thank for reading.

  • Hello Mr Dang,

    The TRS3122E is able to translate TTL logic levels to RS-232 signals. What did you mean that it only deals with half the problem, then? Were you concerned about the output signal level not being high enough (you mentioned 12 V)? I just want to make sure I understand what you need so I can try to recommend the best solution.

    Regards,
    Max
  • Hi Mr Robertson,

    Thank you for your reply. You got what I meant. The signal level was not high enough, at 5V.  So that it did not reach the requirement. We would like to have the output signal that is able to reach 12V DC. In this case, pls if possible could you have any idea for this issue.

    Thank so much.

  • Mr Dang,

    OK, I understand. I unfortunately don't know of any of our transceivers which can provide a +/- 12-V output, but several can output +/- 9 V (for a 3-kOhm pull-down load). You could take a look at the TRS202E, which is a 2 TX / 2 RX configuration similar to TRS3122E.
