TPS2540EVM-623: CDP Mode

Part Number: TPS2540EVM-623
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2540

Hi experts,

When we use TPS2540EVM-623 demo, I have the question as followed:

1. If I want TPS2540 in CDP mode, whether my phone or tablet need support CDP?

2.How can I know my phone or tablet support CDP?

3.If my phone or tablet don't support CDP, and it both need be charged and data transmission, do you have a available solution?

Best Regards

  • Hi Jenny,

    1. If the phone or tablet does not support CDP detection, then the port will still provide power, just not up to 1.5 A. Instead it will provide 500 mA or 900 mA depending on if the phone or tablet supports USB2.0 or 3.0.

    2. I can get back to you on figuring out if a phone or table supports CDP detection.

    Regards,
    Donovan
  • Hi Donovan,

Thanks for your help. And please help with the other two question when possible.

    Thanks a lot.

    Regards

  • Hi Jenny,

1 and 2:  The only way to tell if a phone or tablet supports CDP detection is to connect the phone or tablet to a CDP and monitor the D+ and D- lines.  If connecting to a CDP is supported, the Oscope shot below shows what the D+ and D- lines should look like.

    3.  If the device does not support CDP detection but still requires to be charged and have data communications, then when connected to the TPS254* device in CDP mode, there will still be communications as well as charging.  The charging may not meet the devices max current capabilities but will still provide power.

    Regards,

    Donovan
