TUSB8040A1: Over current function

Part Number: TUSB8040A1

Hi Sirs,

We tested TUSB8040A1 OC function found if load 2.7A, 8040a1 will stop provide USB 5V power.

But it's couldn't automatic re-power 5v when we disconnect load.

We need to reboot system, the IC function will be OK.
This phenomenon is normal?

By the way, I've attach schematic as below. Please help check if we are had mistake. Thanks!!

  • Hi Shu-Cheng,

The over-current load/level is determined by the downstream USB power switch that controls VBUS to the downstream ports. The fault output from this power switch is usually used to drive the OVERCURz input of the hub. The hub will de-assert the PWRCTL output associated with the asserted OVERCURz input as long as the overcurrent event lasts. The hub will also report the overcurrent event to the host controller. The host controller driver may then disable power on the downstream port of the hub until it is power cycled, I believe this is what is occurring in your system.
