WEBENCH® Tools/ISO5851: Parallel IGBT drive with ISO5851

Part Number: ISO5851

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Dear SIrs!

We  used  the Semikron IGBT - Semix604GB12 type. It has (contains) 4 IGBT with separated 4 gate drives G_E connections - and we used  distributed drive resistors(2/3*R at Gate and 1/3*R at emitter) to all  IGBTs.

We would  like to use the mentioned IGBT in parallel connection.

We staded your reference design - TIDUC70a with the ISO5851 driver.

Do you have a suggestion or a study - how can we modify the circuit - how is it able to drive the 2*4 ->8 pcs. IGBT?

Best regards: Jenő csizmazia

  • Hello Jenő,

I am the applications engineer for this device and will work with you with your questions.

I searched for the IGBT module, SEMiX604GB12 and the only results that show up are half-bridge modules (two-IGBT modules).  Is my understanding correct?

Are the 4 IGBTs in parallel? Or are they in a full-bridge configuration.

    regards,

    Mateo

  • Hello  Mateo,

Thanks for your replay and help.

We made from Semix604 module a complete 3phase inverter ( applied 3pcs from the module)

At this application we drives the IGBTs with shared resistor - see  the  attached file)

We would like increase the output current of the inverter, and would like directly parallel connect 2 modules (2modules/phase - apply six modules)  See your reference design:  TIDUC70A - on 2nd page.

    Best regards: Jenő

  • Hi Jenő,

If you are going to put these modules I would recommend the following:

    1. Make sure the layout of the modules are symmetrical. Ensure the trace length are the same in order to avoid mismatches in timing and gate drive strength. Make sure that each gate has its own gate resistor which should be small in value.

    2. Ensure there is emitter resistance for negative feedback.

    3. Include common-mode chokes to prevent common-mode current.

    regards,
    Mateo
