DS125DF1610EVM: USB connection between the EVM board and the computer

Part Number: DS125DF1610EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY, DS125DF1610, DPS-DONGLE-EVM

Hello,

I am failing to use the DS125DF1610EVM board with the SigCon Architect software. Following the instructions of the DS125DF1610EVM user's guide, I am stuck at "3. Setup Instructions" at the following step, which I find a bit unclear :

"Using the USB2ANY, the USB cable can be connected directly to the USB port on the EVM board and the computer."

The sentence seems to indicate both that I should use the USB2ANY device and that I can connect the EVM board directly to the computer without using USB2ANY...

Anyway, since I recieved the EVM board without USB2ANY and the SigCon Architect page on TI's website indicates that the DS125DF1610EVM board does not need a dongle since "USB controller is already on-board", I tried to connect directly the EVM board to the computer using the USB A/mini-B cable supplied. Once the board plugged, the D36 LED is on. However, when I open SigCon Architect, I get a pop-up window telling me that "There are no USB2ANY interfaces detected", proposing me to retry or continue in demo mode. In demo mode, when I try to uncheck the "Demo mode" box, the same pop-up window appears. I tried to remove all devices but DS125DF1610 in the devices list and retried the process, for the same results.

I tried to detect the EVM board both before and after enabling my 2.5V power supply connected with banana cables.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you in advance,

--

  • Hi Romain,

The DS125DF1610EVM contains a USB2ANY circuit on-board, so an external USB2ANY board (or DPS-DONGLE-EVM) is not required. All you will need to do is plug in a USB-to-miniUSB cable from your PC to the board.

It is possible that the EVM you received may somehow have corrupted firmware. When you see D36 after plugging in the miniUSB cable, does the light slowly turn on from dimly lit to bright green? If so, that could be an indicator of either missing firmware or firmware corruption. If this is the case, please let me know, and I can have the firmware sent to you on a separate e-mail thread.

    Thanks,

    Michael
  • Hi Michael,

Thank you for your help. No actually the D36 turns on right away to bright red when I plug in the cable.

  • Hi Romain,

I would suggest trying to reload firmware on the USB2ANY as a precautionary measure to see if this allows you to communicate successfully with the USB2ANY aboard the DS125DF1610EVM.

I will send you an e-mail offline and we can follow up there.

    Regards,

    Michael

  • Hi Michael,

Thank you for your help. To sum up our e-mail exchange, upgrading the firmware was not the answer but the process led to the detection of the actual problem: pins of connector J193 had to be shunt 1-3 and 2-4, unlike the user's guide "all pins open" default setting.

Note that after firmware update, when I restarted SigCon Architect it required me to perform a firmware downgrade to version 2.7.0.10, which is the version SigCon Architect works with so I sticked to version 2.7.0.10 on your advice.

    Regards,

  • Hi Romain,

Confirmed. There appears to be a typo in the DS125DF1610EVM User's Guide where J193 was initially indicated to be left open. Pins 1-3 and 2-4 should be shunted in order to enable connectivity from USB2ANY to the DS125DF1610.

We are working on having the DS125DF1610EVM User's Guide updated to reflect this correction.

    Thanks,

    Michael
