UA9637A: Using This IC for Differential Encoder

Hello,

I have a differential output encoder that I need to convert to single-ended output to use with my data acquisition device. The encoder output is composed of 5V pulses from the encoder.

Will this IC be sufficient for this task? 

Please let me know if I have to provide more information.

    Can you describe what kind of signaling coming out of the decoder? If it's RS422, you could use this device. I would like to know that how many channels you have. This is a dual channel device. We also have quadruple receivers as well.

  • Thank you for responding to my question.

    Unfortunately, the best information I have is the following:

    • 2500 PPR encoder
    • Differential outputs: A(A'), B(B'), Z(Z')
    • Signal: 5V

    My purpose for this device is that right now, there's a significant amount of noise coming through the encoder signal that it is affecting the encoder count (and the resulting angle). This encoder is built-in to the motor and the specification sheet for said motor (which is attached with this response) does NOT provide more information about this encoder and its signal.

  • I would also like to add that the encoder should be supplying an RS422 signal (or at least that is the way I understand it). The pulses are either at 0V or 5V.

    I would also like to clarify that while the original encoder's output is differential, I was only using the single ended (positive) A and B channels. I now realize that I do need a method to process the differential encoder signal in order to diminish (if not eliminate) the effects of the noises.

    As I know, there are two kinds of output drivers for encoders: push-pull (HTL) and RS422 (TTL). Both are differential signaling. I agree with you, in either case, you should process the signal differentially to eliminate common mode noise.

  • Thank you for your response. I have acquired the IC from a local supplier and it is doing its job effectively. Our noise has been significantly reduced and the output signal of the IC is behaving as expected.
