My customer is interesting in using SN65HVD1040A-Q1 to replace existing solution, just want to confirm if SN65HVD1040A-Q1 is fully pin-2-pin compatible TJA1040T/CM? Any functional differences?

Wei-Hao,

From an analog and pin standpoint, yes, these devices are drop-in compatible, though the ESD protection on pins 5,6 and 7 of the SN65HVD1040A is better. There are some timing differences that may require some software changes:

Dominant Timeout

SN65HVD1040A

TJA1040T

Dominant Bus Wake Up Time

SN65HVD1040A

TJA1040T

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the clarification, I checked the tBUS for TJA1040T is 0.75us(min) ~ 5us(max). But I got your point, thank you very much for the useful answer.

Wei-Hao,

You might want to also look into the TCAN1042-Q1 device as well. It is pin-to-pin to the HVD1040A device, but it is newer and has some performance improvements (better transient immunity, lower emissions, etc.).
