DP83630-EVK: Software for the DP83630-EVK/NOPB development kit

Part Number: DP83630-EVK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83640T-EVK, DP83640, DP83630

Hi just got two of these DP83630-EVK/NOPB development kits so that we can start evaluating the IEEE 1588 PTP messages, however, I cannot find the software application that talks to this development kit.  Could you please provide a link?

Much Thanks..

Bill

  • BTW, the software that is linked with this product doesn't recognize the board.

The "About this Program" menu option displays the following:

    Analog LaunchPAD Framework

    Release 1.57.001
Build on Tuesday, March 20, 2018

c 2007-2018 Texas Instruments Inc. All rights Reserved

Also, the board graphic doesn't match the the actual board.

    Thanks,

    Bill

  • Hi Bill,

The Analog Launchpad Software can be downloaded fromthe DP83640T-EVK webpage: www.ti.com/.../DP83640T-EVK
Please note that this software needs Windows XP to operate.

If WinXP is not possible for you then you can use our new software USB2MDIO to read and write register on the PHY. You can also put together a script to program the PHY and read register values. This software needs a MSP430 launchpad and wires for MDIO/MDC. This works on Win 7. Here is the link for the new software: www.ti.com/.../USB-2-MDIO

  • Hi Aniruddha,

Thanks a lot for the very quick response! It was greatly appreciated!
So I was able to download and run the application. It came up on my Windows 7 PC.Attached in the screen shot of what the application came up with.  (I attached an .rtf file to this, hopefully you will be able to see it).

Basically, the National Semiconductor Analog LaunchPAD software displays a window with a list of devices on the left side of the screen.  The device DP83640 under APL Board 4 is the one I selected.

The problem is that the when the DP83630 Demo Board is plugged into my PC and the application is launched, it says that the board cannot be found. When I plug in the board to a USB port on my PC, it says that the drivers for the board cannot be found. When I bring up the "Unknown device Properties" dialog from Windows 7 Devices and Printers display and click on the "Unknown Device" (which appears when the board is plugged in) then select Update Driver... , then set the location to the directory:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\Analog LaunchPAD v1.57.0010\Drivers

The software responds and says that "Windows was unable to install your Unknown Device".

Are you saying that this will this work on a WindowsXP machine? (It's really difficult trying to find one of these..)

    Thanks again,
    Bill

  • BTW, make sure you use WordPad to see the attached .rtf file.
  • Hello again Aniruddha,

So I was able to (finally!) find an old Windows XP machine and downloaded the software to it.
It connects up to the board and now I'm able to set and see the register values.

    Thank you very much!
    Bill
