TPS2513: Voltage level for the USB2.0 data pins within Type C Connector

Hello dear USB Team,

I want to use the TPC2315 to charge a device via an USB Type-C connector. WIll there be any problems, if the USB2.0 pins within the Type C connector will be supplied with the same voltage as is required for the supply of a general USB 2.0?

Hello,

I would not recommend using a BC1.2 part (TPS2513) to charge over a Type-C port as BC1.2 is intended for legacy connections such as USB-A. What's the level of current that they are wanting to supply over the Type-C port? Are they wanting to support alternate modes such as display port (video)? Are they wanting to send data at all through the Type-C connector?

Hello Adam,

Thanks for the response. Which device would you recommend to use to charge over Type-C port? I would also like to send data through the port as well.

Hello,

It depends on how much power you are wanting to supply. If you want to supply up to 15W of power (5V/3A) I would recommend using the TPS25810. Here is a reference design that you can follow which implements a Type-C charging as well as USB3.0 data.

If you are wanting to support more than 15W of power, then you will have to use a Type-C PD controller. For this design choice, I would recommend using the TPS65986
