Hi,

According the datasheet, in a type-2 switch application with two inputs in parallel one of the REx pins should be connected to the LED and the other one to GND, why can't it be left unconnected?

Hello Nate,

The RE pin provides part of the ground path for the current so it has to be connected. Normally this flows through the indicator LED associated with a switch. Since two input pins are used for one type-2 switch, only 1 LED would be used but the ground path is still needed on the second RE pin.
