TPD1E10B09-Q1: Automotive Short to Battery

Part Number: TPD1E10B09-Q1

Hi Team,

I am considering using the TDP1E10B09-Q1 in an automotive application where it is protecting lines that go off board. This means those lines are susceptible to a short to battery condition up to 18V. I noticed the breakdown voltage is 9V.. What will happen to the device if the lines it is protecting are shorted to battery at 18V? Will the device be damaged if the short happens for an extended period of time?

Please let me know if this device is acceptable in that type of application.

 Thank you!

Jared

  • Hello,

If you connected the line protected by a diode that has a breakdown of 9V to 18V the diode will go into its conductive mode and burn out. For this application you would need an ESD device that breaks down >18V. However we currently do not have any.

    Regards,
