ESD solution for USB QC2.0, SD card and Ethernet

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPD4E110, ESDS314, TPD8E003, TPD6F003, TPD8F003, TPD2E007

Dear team,

May I have your help to suggest the following ESD solution? Thank you.

  1. 12V ESD protection for USB QC2.0.
  2. ESD solution for SD card data protection.
  3. ESD solution for Ethernet.

Regards,

Polly Chung

  • Hello,
Why do you want 12V ESD protection for USB 2.0? The Vbus is only at 5V and the data lines only swing at 3.3V.
TPD4E110 will work for Sim card protection. Also most of our general purpose ESD diodes will work in this application as the data rates are very low.
Our new ESD solution for Ethernet is ESDS314.
  • Hi Cameron,

    Thanks for your quickly reply.
Because maximum voltage of QC2.0 could be 12V, you could find more detail on wiki. Please let me know if we have suitable part for this application.

When I searched SD card protection on E2E. I found there is a similar post, but the recommend parts on that post is TPD6F003/TPD8F003/TPD8E003 which is diffferent solution with your recommend (TPD4E110). So now I'm in confusion to use any one of them, Can you please suggest me , which would be the best option to go with and why?

    Thank you.

  • Hello,
I have actually not heard of the quick charge standard? Is your customer using the 12V version? I would recommend TPD2E007 which has a breakdown of 14V.

Those devices are EMI filters so it is really application dependent. The device I proposed is in a different package than most devices that is much smaller and can help for SD card applications that are very concerned about space. For the SD card applications that are concerned about noise you can use any of the TPDxFxxx parts that have an integrated EMI filter.
