SN75LVPE802: SN75LVPE802 series connection between Host and Device.

Part Number: SN75LVPE802

Hi Team,

Please allow me to confirm a simple question, whether two SN75LVPE802 could be connected in series between SATA Host controller and SATA device when the traces and connectors require higher EQ boost ?

SATA Host---->SN75LVPE802---(several boards and connectors)-->SN75LVPE802---->SATA Device

Is there any concern or limitation using two devices on Host side and Device for SATA1/2/3 ?

Any concern in the point of compliance test ?

Best Regards,

Kawai

  • We do not recommend series connection of repeaters.

How much boost is required in this application?

  • Hi Lee-san,

    Thanks for your support.

I am asking the transmission path (insertion loss) detail, so I will let you know when I obtain the information.

Why would you not recommend series connection of SN75LVPE802 ? What kind of problem would be seen if used this way ?

    Best Regards,

    Kawai

  • Hi Kawai-san,

There are two issues in SATA applications with series connected repeaters.

    1. The OOB signaling can get distorted by multiple repeaters.  This is especially true if the system SATA Tx is noisy or does not control the "Idle" voltage very well.

    2. The tuning can be more risky.  In general it is reasonable to find a solution at 6 Gbps, the OOB issues is primary reason for concern.

I look forward to knowing more information about the customer application.

    Lee
