AM26LV31E-EP: Question about maximum differential input voltage of AM26LV31E-EP

Part Number: AM26LV31E-EP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM26C31, AM26C31M

Hi there,

I want to know about the maximum differential input voltage of AM26LV31E-EP, but information about the maximum differential input voltage is not shown on the AM26LV31E-EP data sheet.

(The AM26C31 data sheet contains information on the maximum differential input voltage.)

Please let me know information about the maximum differential input voltage of AM26LV31E-EP.

  • The AM26LV31E-EP is a line driver, and does not have a differential input. Thus, no max VID specification.

If you are considering case where driver is tristated, the you can consider using the single ended abs max specifications for Vo range.

The AM26C31 is also a line driver. It does not make sense for it to have a VID specification.

  • Thank you for answer.

    I have additional questions.

You said that the maximum input voltage range for differential output pins of the RS-422 driver is equal to Vo(Output voltage).

But, I think that Vo is the output voltage according to TIA/EIA-422 standard, and which is different from the maximum input voltage for  differential output pins that can withstand overvoltage.

Also, I think the Vid(Differential input voltage) shown in the AM26C31M data sheet is the maximum voltage for the output pins that can withstand the overvoltage.

If i am misunderstanding, please let me know what the Vid means in the AM26C31M datasheet.

    Thanks.

  • I can't really comment on the intent of the Vid spec in the AM26C31M, as it is supported by another team. I can check with them to get their opinion. It may have been the intent to represent max voltage that can be applied differentially to an output pair. However, this would be a non-standard way of specifying this. Or possibly it was left over from an equivalent line receiver when the datasheet was created.

However, the AM26LV31E-EP very clearly does not have a differential input. Thus there is no reason for a Vid abs max spec. It does have a Vo spec in the abs max section. The device only has the differential outputs (no other outputs). The Vo abs max spec should be used to consider what can be applied to the outputs without violating the abs max specification. Both of the outputs in an output pair can be used single ended, so it makes sense to treat them this way.
You can derive an abs max Vod (when driven) by looking at the Vo spec and doubling the range. The Vo range is -0.5 to 6. So, the abs max Vod would be +/- 6.5V. Exceeding this, would indicate one of the pins is exceeding its single ended limit of 6V, or below -0.5V.
