TLK106: Electric field problems (noise) cause TLK106LRHBT to reset

Part Number: TLK106

Hi,

we are facing noise issues with TLK106LRHBT. Basically the PHY module has a reset when a varying electrical field is applied close < 1.5 mm the IC package. The electric field is caused by the switching node (PWM at ~ 48 V) of a motor controller phases cable at around 20 kHz frequency.

When the phases are physically close to the IC it resets and EtherNet communication stops. The link LED shuts down. Once the distance increase, it restarts and work correctly. No error log is readable from TwinCat. Pins 1 to 8 are the ones closest to the noise generating power phase. Adding a thin aluminum foil connected to the PHY GND on TOP of the package VQFN-32 has solved the problem. However we would prefer avoiding this solution. Placing the cables far away is also difficult as it is a very small and compact device.

What is the electrical field immunity of the device? Do you think the noise is coupled to some of the pins (1 to 8)? The reset pin is the most distant from the noise source. Any advice or recommendation would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Ernest
