DS92LV010A: & DS90LV012A: Layout questions

I am currently working on a layout for DS92LV010A and DS90LV012A. Is it better to lay it out as a “T” with 2 terminated LVDS branches or use a single much longer branch in a “C” configuration? The “T” would be double terminated and equal length branches and the “C” would be single terminated, but twice as long of a trace.

Also, I should use the DS90LV012A receiver without the integrated termination resistor for the BLVDS, correct?

Hello Brian,

Is this a point to point connection between DS92LV010A and DS90LV012A? If so, could you please explain what you mean by a T and C configurations? A diagram or a simple sketch would be helpful.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for providing the detail offline. The C configuration, where you have the DS92LV010A transmitter on one side and all the DS90LV012A receivers on one bus (with no branches), is better. The branch in the T configuration would generate a discontinuity leading to signal integrity issues.

Hi Brian,

Only the last (farthest) DS90LV012A receiver should have a termination (internal or external). Also, since the driver is BLVDS, you should put a termination at the DS92LV010A transmitter side too. This helps absorb any reflections that make it back to the transmitter.

Another thing to take into account is to minimize the length of the stubs (the connections from the DS90LV012A receivers to the bus) as much as possible.
