SN65LVDT41: Recommendation for protection against ESD damage

Part Number: SN65LVDT41
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPD4E05U06

Hi,

I'm using the SN65LVDT41 on a board at 3 locations to extend an SPI bus running at 42 Mbps. A few instances of these devices have ceased to function for reason(s) that are TBD. I suspect at least some of the damaged devices might have suffered EOS caused by hot-plugging the cable that interfaces to these devices. Does anyone have any suggestions for protection devices (e.g. TVS diodes) that might reduce the risk of damage? I've advised the team working on this product not to hot-plug any cables, although even without hot-plugging a cable discharge event could still produce a high voltage transient that might expose these devices to EOS.

Regards,

James
