TCAN1042HGV-Q1: The pins are discolored.

Part Number: TCAN1042HGV-Q1

Dear all

Why are the pins discolored ?Like the below picture:

  • Went,

Can you show the image with an arrow pointing at what you're talking about on the pins? Or maybe take in different lighting? I'm not sure I see what you're talking about.

    Regards,

  • Dear Eric

Look the picture, the red pointing to pins, it's dark, not different lighting.

  • Went,

Has there been any non-ideal function of the device observed with this discoloration?

    Regards,

  • Dear Eric
There doesn't have non-ideal function so far, but it become dark, I worry it will become more dark after be used to automotive, and effect the normal work.
    1. It become dark is normal performance ?
    2. If normal, other auto factory can accept it ?
    3. Can you share the report to me with salt fog test ?
  • Went,

In any case I've ever seen of pins becoming discolored, it is after the device loses functionality and it is due to overheating. It doesn't seem like that is happening in this case, so I'm not quite sure what is happening.

    1. Becoming dark is not normal performance.

    2. If the discoloration doesn't cause any abject performance, I don't see any auto factory even paying attention to it beyond a few tests to verify that everything is still working normally.

    3. I'm working with our packaging and quality teams to see if we have that data available.

    Regards,

  • Went,

I spoke with the quality and packaging teams. TI’s devices go through full package qualification stress tests (Preconditioning at MSL1, Temperature cycling, high temp bake, Autoclave, Bias/Humidity/Temperature) and passed. They must go through this qualification before they are released to the market.

There is also information about Palladium-coated finishes to pin, with further test results. That information is here.

The discoloration could also be caused by soldering materials (type of soldering paste, flux, etc.). Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    Regards,
