DS90UB913A-CXEVM: Using TI913 Serializer to generate Test Image Patterns

Part Number: DS90UB913A-CXEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB953-Q1EVM, , DS90UB913A-Q1

Hi,

We design a tester to test board with 8 ports CAMs using 8 [DS90UB953-Q1EVM]. And we were able to test 6 of the ports. Then we informed that the other two ports need different format and they accept TI913 Serializer format.

Q1) Can we use the DS90UB913A-CXEVM Serializer to generate image patterns similar to the TI953? Any information about setting the pattern generator registers/ Hardware setup?

Q2) is there any spatial pattern image format can be generated using TI913 and cannot be generated by TI953?

The information I have about the required image:

• Simulate 1M camera:
• BT.601 or BT.656, DVP protocol (8 bit)
• Upper 8 bits are used, External H-Sync and V-Sync signal lines
• YUV422 (YCbCr)

Thank you,

Aziz,

  • Hello Aziz,

    To answer your questions:

Q1: No, the DS90UB913A-CXEVM does not have an on-board pattern generation similar to the 953.

Q2: No, since the 913A cannot generate any test patterns.

However, if you have a camera sensor attached to the 913A, then there is a possibility that the camera sensor can generate a test pattern. You would need to reference the datasheet for the sensor to determine how to do this, if it is supported.
  • Hi Shuva,

Thank you very much for your prompt answer,

The Cameras gateway board (DUT) is designed to receive 8 cameras with different formats based on TI954 Deserializer
    • Do you think we can generate the required image patterns using TI953 Serializer (we already have this board)? Or using any other TI pattern generation board?
    • Can we use the TI953 instead of the camera sensor to provide images pattern  to the TI913 then the 913 will send the images to DUT?  So the function of the 913 is changing the image format.

    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Aziz

  • Hello Aziz,

Unfortunately since the 953 is a CSI2 device and the 913A is DVP, you wouldn't be able to use the pattern generated from the 953.

The most straightforward approach for this would be to generate the pattern from the sensor and feed directly into the 913A.
  • Hello Shuva,

    Thank You very much

  • Hello Shuva,

You said: The most straightforward approach for this would be to generate the pattern from the sensor and feed directly into the 913A.

Can you please provide me with more information about that?
Is there any TI device which I can select to generate test image patterns can be used as input to the TI913.

    Thank you,
    Aziz

  • Hello Shuva,

Another question: The specifications of the DS90UB913A-Q1 mentioned that the chip have pattern generation features: [http://www.ti.com/product/ds90ub913a-q1/description]

    Features:
    • CRC
    • I2C Config
    • 4 GPO
    • Pattern Generation
    • Coax or STP

Is there a way to use this feature using the evaluation board?

    Thank you,
    Aziz
  • Hello Aziz,

Most image sensors today come with their own pattern generation functionality. In order to use the sensor's pattern generator, you would need to speak with the image sensor vendor to get more details. The activation of the pattern generator should be as simple as sending I2C commands to the sensor, but the specific details on what commands and how to do this would need to come from the sensor vendor as TI does not manufacture image sensors. In addition, TI doesn't have any device that can be used to generate a test pattern as the input into the 913A. I hope this helps.
  • Hello Shuva,
    Grateful for the prompt reply.
