SN65LVDS31: Pairing with SN65LVDS32 or SN65LVDS33

Part Number: SN65LVDS31
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65LVDS32, SN65LVDS33

I see the SN65LVDS32 listed as the companion device to the SN65LVDS31 on the product folder page. But, on quite a few E2E posts I see the SN65LVDS33 recommended to be paired with the SN65LVDS31.

What are the benefits/issues of pairing the SN65LVDS32 and SN65LVDS33 with the SN65LVDS31?

Thanks!

  • Hello Nickolas,

LVDS is a standard and any LVDS receiver should work with any LVDS driver. So both SN65LVDS32 and SN65LVDS33 receivers will work fine with SN65LVDS31 driver. The main difference between SN65LVDS32 and SN65LVDS33 is the input common mode range. Basically, SN65LVDS33 goes beyond what is required by the standard and accommodates input common mode from -4V to 5V, while SN65LVDS32 supports input common mode range per the LVDS standard (~0V to ~2.4V). If your application has too much ground potential shift between the driver and the receiver, then SN65LVDS33 is more appropriate.
