TPD1E10B06: grounding schemes for best ESD protection

Part Number: TPD1E10B06

Hi

While using ESD protectors in Class 1 equipments (With earth), do you recommend the ESD diodes between signals and earth and the ground and earth to have the shortest path to earth?

Or do you recommend connection to ground?

Also, what do you recommend for good ESD design practise when the system is class II, ie, does not have an earth

Regards

  • Jose-

Best practice is connect the ESD diode GND to system GND, as it will be more effective then at clamping a transient voltage to a low level over the IC input. A connection to system GND could still introduce a larger transient between the input and IC GND as the IC GND will be less defined in this state.

If there is no earth present, the best practice is to connect ESD diode to system GND as close to the input connector as possible.

    Thanks,

    Alec
