TPS25740B: Obsolete?

We currently use the TPS25740B and wish to use it for a new product variation. The recommended replacement will be unsuitable. Can you give us any indication of the availability of this I.C. in the future? We were just about to order PCBs but have put this on hold until we here from T.I.

Hello Peter,

Yes, the TPS25740B is being discontinued and will only be manufactured to maintain existing customer systems so we do not recommend it being designed into future projects.

The recommended device is the TPS65987D. May I ask why you believe this IC will be unsuitable for your design?

Basically, we were using a 24 pin package on a simple double sided PCB. You suggested we move to a 56 pin package which will require 4 layers. We have an alternative which will ultimately give us more flexibility in a 16 pin package.
