SN65HVD231: Low Cost Radiation resistant Can Tranciever device

Part Number: SN65HVD231
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN332, SN55HVD233-SP

Hello,
for a customer we need a radiation resistant Can Tranciever device which is designed for 3.3V µP voltages. The device should also be available for a long time as it becomes a medical device and we cannot change the device easily due to the approvals.
We have used the SN65HVD231D in other circuits.
already used but not yet tested with radiation. Is there any information about the structural size of the DIE?
Are there other tranciever building blocks with a larger structure size?
Are there also CAN transceivers that are as widespread as possible, the industry standard are which are as radiation resistant as possible? For us it is not an option to use space components due to the high cost.
We have already had various µPs tested with radiation and have arrived at values of over 500µS.

Many thanks already once for the help.

  • Hello,

We unfortunately can't disclose proprietary info like exact feature sizes publicly. That said, the device family you mentioned (SN65HVD23x) would be what I would recommend if you were to choose a component for radiation testing since it is in an older, larger-feature process technology compared to newer 3.3-V offerings like TCAN332. We have available a radiation-hardness-assured version (SN55HVD233-SP) of the device as well, but you are of course welcome to perform your own qualification testing on the standard catalog version.

    Regards,
    Max
