RS-485 2:1 transceiver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD78, THVD1450, SN65C1167E

Hello,

I am looking for 2:1 RS-485 receiver.

In my application there are two RS-485 Differential inputs. I need to select any one using IO/SELECT pin.

Does TI has any single IC which has 2 transceivers inside same package.

SN65HVD78 looks to good solution for but but it has only one transceiver?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks,

muni

  • Hi Muni,

Something like SN65HVD78 would work if you used two of them and then controlled the enable lines accordingly.  (For example, if you wanted to connect both "R" pins to a single MCU input you could switch between channels by first disabling the active channel by pulling its /RE line high and then enable the new channel by pulling its /RE line low.)  If you wanted to go this route, I'd recommend THVD1450 over SN65HVD78 since it is a newer device with some performance improvements over the older version.

There are also some devices that integrate two transceivers into a single package.  For example, you may want to consider SN65C1167E.
