SN65 "HVD" - "HVDA" 1040A-Q1 Differences?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD1040A-Q1, SN65HVDA1040A-Q1

What I thought were a couple of simple questions.

What are the main differences between the SN65HVD1040A-Q1 and the SN65HVDA1040A-Q1?

Which part is preferred for a new design (road map and availability-wise)?

I have emailed / called TI Tech Support several times with these "simple"(?) questions and so far have not received a reasonable answer.

Please believe me, I am not being picky.  The information I received was simply, verifiable, WRONG!

Thank you

  • Tony,

The -Q1 devices are the automotive qualified CAN transceivers, in short use the SN65HVDA10x0A-Q1 version for new designs.

The the SN65HVD10x0A-Q1 and SN65HVDA10x0A-Q1 devices are equivalent at this point in time. There was a PCN issued on the SN65HVD10x0A-Q1 devices.  Some customers wanted the PCNed device earlier than the waiting period for the PCN other customers wanted easily visable traceability (symboliztion change) for the PCN updated silicon so a new part number and "device" was set up: SN65HVDA10x0A-Q1.  Since the PCN time has passed, at this point in time the SN65HVD10x0A-Q1 and SN65HVDA10x0A-Q1 are the same silicon, just symbolized and ordered differently, but use the latest P/N the A10x0A for new designs as this is what the car makers would be expecting.

  • Scott,

THANK YOU!, THANK YOU!, THANK YOU!

BUT, now I am a bit confused about the TI "support" process.

You provided the information I was seeking quickly and accurately, the first time, by my posting of this question on the TI E2E Support Community - Industrial Interface forum.

My experience with the phone / email TI Technical Support regarding this same question was not resolved to my satisfaction.  Although the 3 individuals I dealt with seemed to try and be helpful, it did not seem like they had the resource "chain" to actually provide an accurate answer to my question.

Is it best to submit all TI component questions to the TI E2E Support Community or are some questions best answered by the phone / email TI Support team?

    Did I say THANK YOU!,

    Tony

  • Tony,  Glad I could help you get the correct information.  This is why there are multiple avenues to get support.  There isn't necessarily a right or wrong answer on when to use E2E vs the other support methods and it kind of depends on the question which path is better.
