Hello guys,

One of my customers is considering replacing a competitor RS232 device with MAX207 or TRS207.

Also they want to use a device which passed standard, "IEC1000-4-2 ESD level Contact +/- 8kV"

Has MAX207 or TRS207 passed standard, "IEC1000-4-2 ESD level Contact +/- 8kV"?

Or does MAX207 or TRS207 have perforemance to pass the standard?

Hello Kazuya-san,

No, this part number was not tested against IEC1004-2 to my knowledge. It could be used in applications with this requirement if protection could be implemented externally via a TVS diode. Here is an article discussing how to select a diode for this purpose:

If you wanted a similar RS-232 transceiver that can withstand 8 kV contact discharge without additional protection, you could consider TRS3238E. Unfortunately while it is functionally equivalent it does not have a matching pinout.
