My customer is asking if we had any I/O protection solutions for transceiver interfaces (e.g. CAN, LIN, 100/1000BASE-T1) that connect to automotive wiring harness, which could potentially have short-to-battery fault (12V~16V)?  They prefer solutions that can sink to ground, so they could avoid the need for clamping currents to the supply rail (which may require voltage regulator that can sink current).

    There is no such device that can sink current when connected in short to battery as the battery can give seemingly unlimited current.

    The way to do this is to use an OVP switch that will turn off when the voltage reaches too high. The only types of devices we have for that is TPD2S701-Q1 TPD2S703-Q1 but they are for USB devices.
