DS90CR286A-Q1: How to connect the three grounds LVDS_GND, PLL_GND and GND?

Part Number: DS90CR286A-Q1

Hi Team.

In order to obtain better EMI performance, how to connect the three grounds  LVDS_GND, PLL_GND and GND? Thanks.

Best regards,

Ansel Song

  • Hi Ansel,

There's a section 10.1 in the datasheet that discusses some of the guidelines for layout but there's no specific mention of how to connect these. In general, you don't want to have multiple grounds on a board because your voltages/energy potential can differ for each portion of the board then, it is best to have these connected to a common ground. Additionally, during testing you'll have to reference a common earth ground in the chamber or to the shield box or to the power supplies/batteries being used, so it is better to have them tied together.

  • Hi Mandeep,

I noticed that the 286AEVM board is connected with a 0 ohm resistor and then connected together, so considering EMI, is it better to connect the three GNDs to the system GND with a magnetic bead or some filter components?

    Best regards,

  • Ansel,

Generally for the "small size" end equipment, the recommended GROUNDING is to connect all together for fast discharging of ESD. In our EVM board, the design with "0ohms" is for compatibility and flexibility.
