SN65LBC180: /RE pin connection

Part Number: SN65LBC180

Hi team,

My customer doesn't need enable function.

So, the customer should tied /RE pin to GND. Is my understanding correct?

Regards,

Yoshi

  • Yoshi-san,

Yes, you are correct.  /RE can be tied to GND.  This will make the receiver always enabled, meaning the state of the A/B lines will be reflected on the R output pin.  Please let us know if you have further questions.

    Max

  • HI Max,

    Thanks for your quick reply.

Also, the customer should tied DE to VDD. Is it also correct?

    Regards,

    Yoshi

  • Yoshi-san,

Tying DE to the VCC rail is OK for the device.  Under this configuration, though, you should make sure that no other nodes will need to use the Y/Z lines to transmit data.  For example, this would be a valid configuration for a point-to-point (two-node) network or for a "master" node in a multi-point full duplex network.  It would not work for a "slave" node in a multi-point full-duplex network, though.  (Please see Figure 20 in the datasheet for an example illustration of such a network.)

    Regards,
    Max
