Hello,

We are trying to flash a TPS65987DDJ with your TPS6598X-CONFIG tool V6.1.1, 64bit. However, we have having problems getting our C232HM-DDHSL-0 FTDI USB to I2C adapter to communicate with your program and our device. We have individually tested our board to see if the TPS65987DDJ device appears and that is working. When trying to configure the USB to I2C adapter in the, "USB to I2C/SPI Adapter Settings", we are getting a,

"Exception Encountered during I2C Address Sweep: *** ERROR in FTDI call (I2C_OpenChannel), status: 1

We are using the standard TPS65987DDH configuration project. We are using Windows 10 Education Edition Build 1909.

We have tried using your 32 bit version, however, that caused a different windows error alerting us that it was not compiled for our version of windows.

We have tried re-installing drivers from the FTDI site after the intial few attempts and still, no success.

Any help at your earliest convenience would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Prajith,

Yes, I can see the adapter in Device Manager. However, it appears as a COM Port. It appears and disappears when I take the adapter in and out.

We also tried using a fresh install of Windows 7 to run your software, still the same issue.

Hi,

We need USB-I2C interface to communicate with TPS, not COM Port. Are you able to see "USB Serial Converter A/B/C/D" under "Universal Serial bus controllers" in Device manager? If not, please install the FTDI driver by following the instructions in User Guide, Section- "1.4 Installation and Launch".

Hi Prajith,

I followed Section 1.4 again to re-install the TPS software. It seems the adapter appears as a "USB Serial Converter" under Universal Serial Bus controllers. When I tried running the, "USB to I2C/SPI Adapter Settings" again, same error appeared. This time, I disabled the Anti-Virus (Avast). It kept putting the installer into a sandbox mode.

Hi Austin,

TI config tool can work only with FT4232H (quad port, clock up to 30 MHz), the part used on our EVM. Unfortunately, C232HM-DDHSL-0 adapter uses FT232H (single port, clock up to 30 MHz).

Is this mentioned anywhere in documentation? All we found was a FTDI USB adapter was needed.

Do you have a recommendation for an adapter?

Hi Austin,

Thanks for pointing out the error in UG. We will correct it in the next revision.

An adapter with FT4232H controller should be fine.

Hi Prajith,

I'm having a hard time finding a USB to I2C Adapter for that specific chip. Do you have one that TI uses that I can purchase on DigiKey?

You can use Total Phase Aardvark I2C/SPI Host Adapter.
