DS64BR111: DS64BR111 Si simulation queries

Part Number: DS64BR111
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS100BR111

Hello,

I'm working on SI simulation for backplane analysis using hyperlynx. DS64BR111 is used and transmitter and receiver across backplane channel. I have below queries for DS64BR111:

1. Jitter values are not automatically loaded from AMI model. So I have entered values from datasheet as attached in snapshots. Could you please check if I have entered correctly?

2.

After entering these values, eye is completely closed.(simulation snapshots attached)

2. My data rate is 6.4GBPS (maximum for DS64BR111). How should I set eye parameters for qualification?

3. In IBIS-AMI model user guide, there is a Model limit setting 0 for non-limitting mode and 1 for limitting mode(on page no 5). How to set this in actual hardware?TI_DS64BR111_IBIS_AMI_User_Guide.pdf

  • Hi Rahul,

    1. I recommend to keep the jitter values as 0.  I would only add jitter values to the simulation from the system Tx driving the DS64BR111.  This will yield more realistic results as the model was verified in this way.

    2. The eye parameters at your system Rx receiving data from the DS64BR111 should be set based on the interface specifications.  The DS64BR111 does not have an input eye mask requirement.

    3. Normally with 6 Gbps applications will use a limiting mode of operation.  This is the default working condition of the DS64BR111 device.  The model is built to cover other devices which include the non-limiting mode of operation (see DS100BR111).

  • Hello Lee,

    I appreciate your support.

SI simulations are being done for the backplane. The daughter cards have DS64BR111 as a repeater. The signal flow is like below.

Daughter card 1 ( FPGA->DS64BR111) -> (Backplane channel) -> Daughter card 2 (DS64BR111->FPGA). So DS64BR111 itself is driving DS64BR111. Should I add jitter values to DS64BR111 in daughter card 1 which is acting as a transmitter?

    Thanks.

  • I would leave the jitter additions at 0 in this simulation for the first DS64BR111.  I would just add the 0.065UI deterministic jitter to the second repeater - leaving the Rj at 0.
