DS64BR111: Confirmation of specification

Part Number: DS64BR111
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS100BR111, DS100BR210

Hi Team,

I am looking for a driver/buffer IC that can drive the input of SFP(4.25Gbps) transceiver.
・FPGA outputs CML signal on the board and inputs it to SFP.
・The specifications of SFP is attached.

In this design, we think that the distance from the FPGA to the SFP module is about 3 cm and the loss of PWB is not so large, rather, we think that the signal jitter due to the insertion of the driver device is the problem.
So I would like to confirm the basics with the following devices.
DS64BR111
DS100BR111
DS100BR210
・Can I use the default setting after power-on without using SMBus serial programming?
・Can I use frequencies below 10Gbps, such as 4.25Gbps?
・Which of the above devices has good jitter performance?

  • Hi Tom,

All three devices offer good equalization capability.

The setting using pin configuration mode (ENSMB = GND) can be used for this application.

You will need to adjust the equalization  level to match the transmission line losses from the system to the redriver input.

You will also need to set the output VOD.  For this short trace length I would either use a 0dB or -3.5dB output setting.

It is okay to have a datarate at less than the rated 10.3125 Gbps.  These devices will work down to below 1 MHz.

    Regards,
