CLC001: Generate and transmit CLOCK and SYNC signals over 20 meters of CAT5 twisted pair cable

Greetings to all from Spain,

I need to design a 4-port "hub" to generate a CLOCK signal (38.4 MHz) and a SYNC signal, for the distribution of those signals to 4 devices, via CAT5 twisted pair cable, at a distance of between 10 and 20 meters.

I have no experience in designing this type of circuit. Could you help me with the selection of ICs for the different circuit blocks of this "hub", and also in the signal recovery block in the receiving devices?

CLC001 is used for data transmission. For clock distribution and transmission, please use clock buffers or generators. Please follow the link below these products:

Dear Nasser,

I appreciate your comments. I will start by consulting the "Clocks & timing" link, to select the CLOCK generation device.

However, if I want to transmit that CLOCK signal at a distance of between 10 and 20 m, using a CAT5 cable, should I not use a Cable Driver (CLC001, or an equivalent component) ?, to correctly handle the transmission of the CLOCK signal through the cable, to the device connected at the other end ?.

Hi Juan,

It depends. CLC001 can be used to transmit low speed clock. There could be some some deterministic jitter at the output of your cable. You can check to make sure these meet your application requirements.
