SN65HVD230: SN65HVD230DR Failure

Part Number: SN65HVD230

Dear Support,

We've been using your IC SN65HVD230DR as a CAN driver in your vehicle tracking unit, for several years.
Recently, one of our customers reported that our vehicle tracking unit was not working properly, damaging the main control unit of the customer's vehicle.
After carefully analyzing the damaged vehicle tracking unit, we concluded that the root cause of the problem was due to a CAN driver IC SN65HVD230DR which failed and eventually damaged the main control unit of our customer's vehicle. Please notice that the vehicle tracking unit mentioned before was installed in 2016 and has been working properly since then.

Please let me know if there are previews reports regarding similar SN65HVD230DR issues, and also let me know what could be the causes of such failure.

  • Jose,

We don't have any reports of the SN65HVD230 damaging other units once it is damaged. Most times when this device gets damage is from electrical overstress when a voltage transient occurs. Is there any way you can get more information on the specific signature of the failure, such as what part of the device is failing, or how the customer is reporting the failure? And then what kind of damage is occurring on the main control unit?

    Regards,
