LMH1208: LMH1208 Implementation making use of differential output

Part Number: LMH1208

I have seen many applications of the SDI interface and I understand the termination schemes of transmitting over a single coax and terminating the other output capacitively into 75 ohm.  The same is then done at the receiver.

However, is there anybody recommending using the differential driver and receiver differentially?   Or are we really calling a single ended system with an inverted output, a true differential driver?

  • Hi Daniel,

I believe when you are referring to the differential driver/receiver you are referring to the 75-ohm side versus 100-ohm interface. Given this, Technically you can use SDI devices in differential mode however skew management in the media and different loss characteristics can complicate and hard to manage media adaptive equalization. Additionally please note these parts have been characterized in single ended 75-ohm mode since this is the main and only application for these devices.
