THVD2410: THVD2410 vs SN65HVD1781 Pros & Cons

Part Number: THVD2410
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD1781,

Hi team,

A customer is evaluating a switch from SN65HVD1781 to the newer THVD2410. Can you tell me pros and cons of THVD2410 vs SN65HVD1781? They need 500kbps bus speed +/-70V fault protection and 3.3V supply voltage.

Thank you,

Franz

  • Hi Franz,

There are several advantages to THVD2410.  It supports a wider VCC range, maintaining RS-485 standards compliance down to VCC = 3 V.  For an equivalent supply voltage, it tends to have a higher differential output signal from the driver (good for noise immunity and communication over long distances).  It has a high level of integrated ESD protection, achieving 12 kV IEC 61000-4-2 (contact or air discharge) without external protection components.  Similarly, there is internal protection for IEC 61000-4-4 EFT which is intended to enable criterion-A system level performance - i.e., data fidelity is maintained in the presence of coupled noise pulses. It is specified to support a wider common mode operating range, something useful when communicating among systems with potential differences between their ground references.  It also supports a wider temperature range and ICC is slightly lower.

Please let us know if you or the customer have any further questions.

    Regards,
    Max
