TPD8S300: Short to VBUS overvoltage protection

Hello,

The TPD8S300 device provides short to VBUS overvoltage protection for CC and SBU pins.

1. The Super speed TX/RX pins are also adjacent to the VBUS pins. So, is short to VBUS not a concern for the SS TX/RX pins? Mechanical twisting should be a concern for these pins as well, just like in the case of CC and SBU.

2. How will we protect SS TX/RX from this short to VBUS event?

Hi,

Our product line don't have this device support the TX,RX short to VBUS. The TX,RX require high bandwidth, it is challenge to do the short to battery feature in it .

Maybe you can search the other production line device whether has this feature, thanks!

Yes, the high speed TX/RX cannot take this added R, C parasitics from the switch + on-board ESD.

I just wanted to confirm with you that the over voltage risk exists for the RX/TX pins, but we just don't add this OVP protection due to bandwidth concerns. The data sheets and app notes only talk about risk to the SBU/CC pins.

Can you suggest other product line part # that has the OVP protection on the RX/TX pins?
