DP83869EVM: about SGMII to Copper mode on DP 83869 HM

Part Number: DP83869EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83869HM
I have a question about SGMII to Copper mode on DP 83869 HM.
As shown in (1) below:
2 DP 83869 EVM boards configured for SGMII to Copper mode via Strap Configuration and connected via coaxial cable.
When we measured the packet error between PC1 and PC2, we observed packet loss.
(1). PC1 - Ethernet Cable - DP 83869 EVM (Copper to SGMII) - Coaxial Cable (SGMII) - DP 83869 EVM (SGMII to Copper) - Ethernet Cable - PC2
As shown in (2) below, when PC1-PC2 is directly connected by Ehternet Cable, no packet loss is observed.
(2). PC1 - Ethernet Cable-PC2
Strap Configuration is set to the following Funciton Mode.
 ・ Auto-negotiation, 1000/100 advertised, Auto MDI-X
※ Other registers are specified with default values.
Do you know what causes packet loss? (Register setting, etc.)
  • Hello,

Can you confirm that the PHYs are powered on and linked up before data transfer begins?

If so, can you create the following setup:

    • Setup PC1 - Ethernet cable - DP83869EVM.
    • Configure DP83869HM for reverse loopback
    • Start data transfer from PC1, in reverse loopback, PHY will loop data back to PC
    • Check send/receive data for packet loss/errors.

This will check communication between PC1 and the DP83869EVM over the Ethernet cable. Please refer to section 9.3.4 for proper loopback mode configuration.

    Thank you,

    Nikhil
