DS90UB948-Q1EVM Problem working with DS90UB949-Q1EVM

Hi,

I'm now in trouble to work with SerDes.

I used DS90UB949 as a Serializer, and DS90UB948 as a Des. Both are EVM kit.

Here's my condition.

Input : HDMI from PC.

Serializer : 949 EVM

Deserialzer : 948 EVM

Connection: single lane (only 2-coax cable, DIN0+ and DIN0-)

Output : LVDS (dual) to Monitor.

I have a few questions as below.

1. As i understand, FPD-Link III supports not only transfer the serialized data, but also du-plex communication. (for example, I2C, SPI Communication)

That means, serializer must read the status of deserialzer to initialize itself ?

2. I want to transfer the FPD-LINK data by wirelessly.  (by using wireless EVM, ST60A2, from STMicro Electornics).

However, our wireless data EVM supports only sim-plex (only forward transfer to the Deserialzer),

I dont want to use auto-initialization of the SerDes EVMs.

3. If i connected SerDes by 2-coax cable, then i checked that Monitor turned on.

At that connection, without touching all the wire connection including power-cable,

i only plug out 2-coax cable and i connected the 2-coax cable to wireless EVM (ST60A2, from STMicro Electornics),

then the monitor turned on correctly.

However, the problem is that, if i use wireless EVM at the first time, without connecting the SerDes EVM by 2-coax cable before,

then it is not working. (monitor is not turned on.)

Therefore, i think that the problem is from the Wireless EVM of sim-plex data transfer.

4. In my situation,

Is there any way to make the initialization of 949 EVM manually ? (like I2C or something.)

I2C address is not changing manually.

How i can change the I2C address of 949 EVM manually?

Very thanks in advance,

Choi.

  • Hi Choi,

Did you download the ALP evaluation software? If not, you need to download the ALP as well as the patch from this link.

Here are the answers reflect to your question.

    1. No. The serializer UB949 doesn't need to read the status from UB948. However, in order for the serializer to read the remote status or registers, they must established link and lock.
    2. Unfortunately, you can't communicate the serializer and deserializer via wireless. They must physically connected from DOUTx± to the RINx± via interconnect.
    3. If you want to configure coaxial configuration, you need configure the UB949 and UB948 from STP to Coax. For for more information how to change it, please refer to datasheet and user guide. You might want to do this UB949EVM via SMA -> SMA to Coax adapter -> Coax interconnect -> Coax to SMA -> UB948EVM.
    4. Yes, you can change the I2C address. The default is 0x18. Please refer to EVM user guide for more information change the I2C address on the DIP switch.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further question.
