TUSB8041-Q1: is the EEPROM optional or must be used?

Part Number: TUSB8041-Q1

Hi

is the EEPROM optional or must be used? If we don't use EEPROM, any limitation for the application? Thanks.

  • Hi Wayne,

For TUSB8041-Q1 normal operation an EEPROM is optional as long as default USB descriptors can be used. If USB descriptors need to be changed then EEPROM is required.

  • HI Malik,

    Thanks for your help.

I searched four key words of descriptors in the datasheet, in 8.5.5, such as device descriptors, do you mean the descriptors are these things?

  • Hi Wayne,

Most registers in Table 3. TUSB8041-Q1 Register Map will impact the USB Hub descriptors. See the full section 8.5 of datasheet for more details on these registers. Below is a list of examples where customer would need to implement a EEPROM. This list excludes features that can be configured through GPIO.

    • Needs to change device VID/PID
    • Change Manufacturer String or custom serial number
    • enable USB 2 polarity swap
    • Identify non-removable ports
