TL16C550D: DMA(Direct Memory Access) with CPU

Part Number: TL16C550D

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask TL16C550D?

Is it possible to use DMA(Direct Memory Access) with CPU?
The datasheet shows the description "DMA" word.
If you have some connection figure with CPU using DMA function, could you share us?

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • These signals exist for compatibility with National Semiconductor's NS16550A, and work only if you have a hardware DMA controller that is compatible with that particular protocol. In particular, the DMA controller is responsible for generating read or write requests to the FIFO.

I doubt that any CPU sold today has such a DMA controller. In practice, the TXRDY/RXRDY pins are useful only as separate interrupt signals.
