SN65HVD230: Equivalent Input and Output Schematic Diagrams

Part Number: SN65HVD230

Hello team,

Our customer point out that there is a gap between CANH/L of block diagram at page 1 and the circuit at page 18 as following.

Is it true the circuit for CANH and CANL outputs at page 18 ?

It shows totem pole circuit.

In case of CANH, low side FET is not needed while high side FET is not needed in case of CANL.

Could we get your advice why the FETs is needed and its use case ?

Thank you and best regards,

Michiaki

  • Hi Michiaki,

The figure here represents the basic components that make up the CAN circuit. As you point out, neither CAN driver would need both high-side and low-side FETs. In the actual design, only one of these is included for CANH (high-side) or CANL (low-side). I believe these were combined in this figure to save space.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott
