TCAN1042HV: Is it a need to put resistor between MCU and TCAN1042HV in RXD and TXD line

Part Number: TCAN1042HV

Team,

Customer is wondering whether we need to put resistor in the RXD and TXD line between MCU and TCAN1042HV and why we need to put this resistor?

Datasheet seems that there are RXD and TXD are directly connected between MCU and TCAN1042HV, which is shown as below:

Wish to get your reply, thanks!

  • As far as the transceiver itself is concerned, resistors are not necessary.

If the traces are not short, you might want to avoid transmission line effects by adding resistors at the MCU TXD pin and the TCAN RXD pin for source termination. (The TCAN RXD has rise/fall times of 10 ns, which means that traces of 50 cm are still short.)

Sometimes, resistors are helpful for debugging. If you do not have space or cost constraints, it would be a good idea to add them.
