HD3SS460: HD3SS460 usb3.0

Part Number: HD3SS460
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUXHS4412, TUSB1042I, TUSB1146

Hi Ti Team,

Does HD3SS460 support switching to USB3.0 when TypeC is used as a downlink port?If so, how should it be set?

  • Hi,

HD3SS460 is a passive Type-C MUX which can be used in both the source and the sink application. For source application, please refer to Figure 9 or 10. For sink application, please refer to Figure 11, 12, or 13.

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi Smith,

Correct HD3SS460 could be used here. This device is a passive mux for USB and alternate mode applications. Will your Type-C port support any USB-C alternate modes? If not TMUXHS4412 could be used.

Also passive muxes should be used when signal integrity (SI) is not a concern (i.e. short PCB trace, <~4.5 in). If SI is a concern the active muxes like TUSB1042I and TUSB1146 (alternate mode applications) should be used.
