MAX3232E: Operation at VCC ~= 4.4V?

Part Number: MAX3232E

MAX3232E has recommended VCC specs of 3.3V +/- 0.3V or 5.0V +/-0.5V.  First page of data sheet indicates, "Operates with 3V to 5.5V VCC Supply".

Any issue operating this part at VCC = 4.4V?  (This is a diode drop below 5V).  It seems like it would be just fine, but the recommended specs are oddly specific to the ranges listed.

Thanks, Best, Steve

  • Hi Steve,

You can totally operate the device at 4.4V. The values you see in 6.3 for the supply voltage is what TI tested the device with. They inputted 3V+-0.3V and 5V+- 0.5V. So this should give you a rough idea on what your system will operate at based on your desired input voltage.

    Best,

    Chris
