TCAN1042H: TCAN1042 replace TJA1040 and TJA1042

Part Number: TCAN1042H

Hi Team,

TCAN1042 can pin to pin and replace TJA1040 and TJA1042?

  • Hi Kevin,

Firstly the pins of the TCAN1042 do match the pins of the TJA devices however there is no SPLIT pin on the TCAN1042. This pin is no longer needed to pass emission certifications so depending on what device you purchase it is now used as a NC or as a VIO pin. This is the same for the TJA devices.

The differences come in the electrical characteristics. Here are some of the differences that I found.

For the TJA1042 the under voltage detection on VCC is lower than the UVCC of the TCAN1042H: 3.5V vs 3.8V

The minimum VIO for the TJA1042 is lower than the TCAN1042: 2.8V v.s 3.0V

The VOL and VIL for the devices are also measured differently.

These differences however are minimal and I wouldn't expect there to be an issue in replacing these devices. I would still recommend that you go through the electrical characteristics of the TCAN1042 and make sure that it meets the specifications of your system.

    Best,

    Chris
