P82B96: I2C level shifter that can be connected to P82B96

Part Number: P82B96
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9517A, TCA9509

Hi All,

It is assumed that TCA9517A and P82B96 are connected.

In the past, a similar question stated that the connection could not be made due to the different offsets.
I think it's connectable, but is my understanding correct?
Or is there an optimal I2C level shifter that can be connected to the P82B96?

  • Hi Ishiwata-san,

B side of TCA9517A and P82B96 S side are the static voltage offset sides of the device. They cannot be connected together since VoL of P82B96 is ~0.8V and TCA9517A has a ViLc of 0.45V.

You may be able to get this to work if you switched the TCA9517A with TCA980x and have A side connected to the P82B96 and remove the pull up resistors on B side of 980x. The other option is to use TCA9509 and connect B side to P82B96 (remove pull ups on A side of TCA9509 may be optional)

  • Hi Bobby-san,

    Thank you for your answer.

Using either TCA980x or TCA9509, I will consider it again.

    Thanks for your support
