TUSB216I: What the difference between TUSB21x?

Part Number: TUSB216I
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB211, , TUSB216

Dear Technical Support Team,

I'm planning to replace from TUSB211 to TUSB216I because of delivery problem.

①If you have any concern to  replace from TUSB211 to TUSB216I, could you share it?

②What the difference between TUSB21x? Do you have  a documentation about this?

TUSB216I is the latest device, so following document doesn't have information about TUSB216I and TUSB216.

③ In addition, What the difference between TUSB216 and TUSB216I?

Best Regards,

ttd

  • Hi ttd,

No concern when switching between the two devices. Since TUSB216I boost is better (stronger) than TUSB211. There may be some tuning necessary for BOOST and RX_SENS settings to find optimal eye diagram.

Both devices serve the same USB2 redriver function however TUSB216 include the following feature which TUSB211 does not:

    • BOOST setting include AC and DC boost setting where TUSB211 only have AC boost
    • TUSB216I AC boost if more finely tuned for better performance.
    • TUSB216I includes RX_SENS settings used to recover signal that experience large amounts of attenuation.
    • TUSB216I has integrated CDP controller function (Optional).

TUSB216I has some updates for test mode entry over TUSB216. Normal HS operation remains the same.

  • Hi Malik Barton57,

    Thank you for your reply.

i check the current schematic of TUSB211 and use this circuit for TUSB216/216I.

    ■TUSB211

    VREG(11pin) :  0.1-µF external capacitor to GND

    ENA_HS(9pin): floating

    ■TUSB216:

CDP_ENZ(11pin):  I don' use BC 1.2 CDP controller. Should remove 0.1uF for floating(internal pull up set High level)?

RX_SEN/ENA_HS(9pin): Can be keep floating? should I set 3-level with Split resistor?

    Best Regards,

    ttd

  • Hi ttd,

    1. Yes can remove cap or leave attached both options are okay.

    2. If you can modify schematic to add option for additional resistor options that would be good. Leaving the pin NC sets mid level RX sensitivity which is the most common settings used and services the most applications.

  • Hi Malik Barton57,

    Thank you for your reply.

Current USB system is enough with TUSB211. So TUSB216/216I is the same or better with mid level RX than TUSB211,

I will leave the pin NC of RX_SEN/ENA_HS.

    Best Regards,

    ttd

  • Hi tdd,

Correct and I recommend using TUSB216I.
