ESD224: Can we use ESD224 @HDMI DDC (DDC_CLK & DDC_DATA) pins

We are going to use ESD224 in our HDMI interface schematic. According to datasheet, ESD224 is used in only TMDS pins of HDMI.

Can we use ESD224 for other pins (DDC_CLK, DDC_DATA, HPD & CEC) of HDMI? or need to use TPD4E05U06 ic as shown in datasheet?

Hello Urvi,

I would not recommend using ESD224 on the non-TMDS lines since it has a 3.6 V Vrwm. Those are 5 V control lines and need an ESD diode with a 5 V Vrwm to allow for 5 V normal operation voltage levels. TPD4E05U06 has a 5.5 V Vrwm, so it will effectively protect these control lines. For more info about HDMI protection, please refer to our System Level ESD Protection Guide. Note: ESD224 has not been added to this guide yet. There is a separate app note discussing ESD224 here.

Thank you Smith to resolved my issue.

Have to use TPD4E05U06 for TMDS and Non-TMDS lines in HDMI to reduce inventory.
